  COMPARISON OF THERMAL AND PIEZO PRINTHEAD TECHNOLOGY

Small resistors in thermal ink printers produce heat to evaporate the ink and create a bubble in the ink tank. The bubble expands and a drop of ink is forced out of the nozzle.

Piezo system uses piezo crystals, which are located in the back part of each ink tank secondary nozzle. Crystals receive a slight electric charge, causing crystals to change their form, therefore creating a pressure for forcing out a drop of ink from the nozzle.

PrecisionCore has up to triple the nozzle density of conventional Epson piezo printheads. Nozzle Verification Technology automatically verifies and cleans nozzles, or compensates for any blockage using dot substitution function - larger ink droplets are ejected from the adjacent nozzles to cover the same area. Therefore, the users can always count on good colour label printer results without interrupted operation for manual repair of the printer.		Blocked nozzles are normally fixed and back in action quickly and automatically, but should a nozzle remain blocked, there’s no reduction in print quality. This is because the neighbouring nozzles can print larger ink droplets to cover the relevant print area.
